One-on-one Somatic Book Coaching

You might be asking: what the heck is book coaching?

The short answer:
I help you finish your book.

The more thorough answer:

I help you see what you’re doing that’s getting in the way of yourself. That’s what coaches do. In sports, say, basketball, they point out what a player is or isn’t doing or seeing because they’re IN the game. They’re surrounded by players and they don’t see the wide-open swing guard under the basket (because they’re short - haha). The coach sees the whole picture, the whole layout of the game. The coach sees where the blocks are and where the opportunities are. As your somatic book coach, I hold up a mirror to show you the things that you’re overlooking or missing or not seeing or straight-up avoiding. I show you the whole layout and the gaps in your “game”. I show you the swing guard who’s open under the basket. (And if you’re like, Girl - I don’t even watch basketball - what the heck are you saying? Keep reading.)

And the reasons you’re not finishing your book?
Chances are, they’re hidden at the subconscious level.

Maybe deep inside, you wonder who you’ll be without a book to work on because writing this book has been your whole identity. If the book gets finished, then what??

Maybe you’re obsessed with it being “perfect” because you’re looking for external approval from someone (past or present– a parent, a mentor, even society) who has unattainable expectations for you. And if you could just get the book “perfectly” written… THEN you’d feel valued, you’d feel worthy.

Maybe you’re attached to what other people think. If you finish writing this book (and inevitably publish it), people might hate you. They might not want to ever be friends with you. Family might disown you.

Maybe you’re writing about a past trauma that you still carry and all you do is write around it (even if your book is fiction! or that secret-code called poetry! hah!). You write every chapter except THAT one. The one that’s at the core of your book.

At the conscious level,
you might be thinking:

  • I don’t have time.

  • I’m not expert enough to write this.

  • I have to do more research.

  • I need to make more revisions.

  • This is just for fun. I’m no writer. Who am I kidding to even think I could write a book?

  • My life is so busy! Writing a book feels trivial compared to everything else.

  • The world is on fire! Writing a book feels trivial compared to everything else.

You might also be thinking:
I’ve done a TON of therapy. I know what my problem is. I’m very well aware of my traumas and my problem with ______ [worthiness, perfectionism, etc Insert issue of choice.].

Great! You’re halfway there! That’s amazing!

So you’ve got this terrific self-awareness.
Now what? What do you do with that?

A lot of people I’ve worked with don’t have a clear answer when I ask them this. They grasp at odds and ends– things they picked up on social media… but never did anything with it. Affirmations on repeat. But forgetting to actually repeat them.

It’s like picking up a few cool dribbling tricks on some random YouTube channel, but then forgetting to try them out when you’re on the court during basketball practice.

If any of this sounds familiar and you’re feeling frustrated or stuck and there’s this deep burning desire to finish the damn book already, I AM YOUR PERSON!

We’ll work one-one-one to get to the core of what’s standing in your way and why (maybe you already know). Then we’ll use somatic practices to help release the blocks and make space for new thoughts and beliefs that support your finishing the book.

Think of me as your Ate (oldest sister in Tagalog) who will help keep you accountable to showing up for the work (basketball practice), guide you through the game (courtside coaching), and give you a few techniques and strategies to cut through the defense (crossover dribble and head fake) because I believe that you can DO THIS. You can finish your book. You just need a little coaching. :)

(And hey, if the basketball metaphor ain’t working for you, insert the sport of your choice. And if you’re like: I hate sports. Then, put yoga in there. A yoga teacher can see where you’re out of alignment because they are outside of you. They see what you don’t. As your book coach, I see what you don’t. I bring you into alignment.)
